Christmas Sherry Hot Toddy

Hello my bees, this little Hot Toddy recipe good choice for those cold winter nights, and is a very quick and easy to make. In my personal opinion, this drink will go great with any sherry cakes especially my Chocolate Marshmallow Teacake recipe, which is why I paired them together.  You can also swap the sherry out for whiskey, brandy, or spiced rum.

My dear departed Nana used to drink this each time she felt a cold coming on, I'm no doctor - so don't take my word for it - but she seemed to think it worked. Of course, if you are taking and medication please leave out the alcohol.

What you will need?

  • 4-6oz Hot Water
  • 4-6 oz  Sherry
  • 2-3 Tsp Honey or Syrup
  • 1/2 Tsp Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice
  • 1 Lemon Slice (to garnish)
  • 1 Cinnamon sugar (optional)

What you need to do?

1
Place some honey and cinnamon onto separate small plates. Dip the rim of your glass into your honey, and then your cinnamon.
2
Bring your water to a simmer in a saucepan (or feel free to use a tea kettle), then pour your hot water into a mug.
3
Add your Sherry, honey and lemon juice to your mug. Stir until the honey has dissolved in the water,

If you have a sweet tooth (like little-old me), add a little more honey, or if you prefer it a little more tart (like my husband does) you can an extra teaspoon of lemon juice instead.
4
Finish with a slice of lemon and a cinnamon stick.
Every one of my bees are unique, and we all have our own way we like things so the secret to making your best hot toddy is just play around with the amount of lemon juice and your honey until your taste buds are dancing in your mouth.
